The DSM is the major reference tool in North America used to diagnose mental health disorders. The DSM is intended for use in clinical settings by a wide range of health and mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, primary care physicians and others. For each disorder, the DSM lists specific criteria for making a diagnosis. A French language version is available for purchase.
The fourth and most recent edition is the DSM-IV-TR; the DSM-V is expected in 2012. This resource is published by the American Psychiatric Association and is made available on-line to subscribers by Psychiatry On-line.
Health care providers in Ontario have free access to the French language version of the DSM at the CAMH library. Please call 416-595-6144 or contact the library by email at library@camh.net.
